Meet the Principal
Lizzie Buckingham and Alex Gatherer
Husband-and-Wife team, Lizzie and Alex, bring to Razz a wealth of combined experience from across the industry. Lizzie is a professional musical theatre performer who trained at the prestigious Urdang Academy, before completing her MA in Music Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. As a performer, Lizzie has worked extensively across the UK, from West End to touring, fringe, outdoor and site specific theatre. Her experience spans musicals, pantomime, classical theatre, physical theatre and devised work. Her specialist passion is family and children’s theatre. Alongside performing, Lizzie has created and delivered education programmes in the UK and internationally, working with children from early years through to vocational level. During the week, Lizzie runs North London Stars Dance School in Finchley. Alex’s background is in theatre directing, writing, and education. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and has worked extensively in youth theatre, education, and performance training, combining industry-level practice with a strong understanding of how young people learn and grow through drama. After working as company manager at Welsh National Youth Opera, Alex moved into teaching at Cheltenham College, then into a more senior role as Director of Theatrical Performance at Mill Hill School. His work spans everything from Shakespeare to original musicals, and he has written and developed new work for young performers. His own original musical, Margaret’s Mind, was written specifically for young performers and has been produced in the UK and internationally. Lizzie and Alex are passionate about creating a space where children are encouraged to explore, grow in confidence, and fall in love with performing.
