A local primary school boy has beaten off stiff competition to win a coveted role in a Disney Music Video that will be shown in-between programmes on the Disney Junior Channel. The video is to highlight the different ways children can enjoy and have fun with music.
Calvin Kipling, age 7 was selected from hundreds of children, thanks to his awesome air guitar playing skills. Calvin attends part-time theatre school Razzamataz Penrith where he has been learning the skills that are required to make it in the world of show business.
Although this was just his first audition through Razzamataz’s partner talent agent Top Talent, Calvin impressed the filmmakers with his energy and enthusiasm.
“When Calvin found out he got the job he was absolutely thrilled,” said Calvin’s mum Katie Kipling. “He only got selected by Top Talent Agency in April and this was his very first audition so to get his first job so quickly he was very excited. Calvin loves all kinds of music so to be able to do what he loves on camera was a dream come true for him.”
The initial audition was for Calvin to send a tape of himself having fun with music and Calvin’s consisted of him rocking out on his guitar and singing along to his favourite song. He was then selected out of hundreds of children to attend an audition in London for the producers to see how he looked on camera and also for Calvin to showcase his personality and passion for music.
Filming took place on location in Central London as Calvin’s mum explains: “It was a full 9am to 6pm day and Calvin took it all in his stride and loved showing off and having fun in front of the film crew. He was filmed playing the electric guitar and jumping around going crazy to the music.”
Calvin has been a student at Razzamataz Penrith since September 2015 where he gets involved in dance, drama and singing lessons every Wednesday afternoon during term time.
“We are incredibly proud of Calvin and can’t wait to see him on the Disney Channel,” says Lauren Kirkbride, Principal of Razzamataz Penrith. “He’s great fun in class and has a really mature attitude and is a hard worker so we are all delighted that he had this wonderful opportunity.”
Razzamataz Penrith offers a wide range of performing arts styles for children ranging in age from 4-18. Together with the chance to audition for Top Talent Agency and guest workshops from industry professionals, the students have the opportunity to take part in many performances, both within the community and on a larger stage.
The students at Razzamataz Penrith attend classes in singing, dancing and drama every Wednesday at Newton Rigg College, Penrith. During the session, they participate in many different areas of performing arts covering various styles from street dance and pop singing through to classic West End musical theatre numbers as well as acting for stage and screen. In all sessions, the emphasis is on having fun, keeping fit and improving the confidence in each and every student.
