1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Shalamar Baker, I’m 22 years old, and I’ve been part of the Razzamataz family for most of my life! I started as a student when I was seven and have grown up through the network, from student to teacher and now as part of the Head Office team.
Outside of Razzamataz, I’m also a singer and content creator. I’ve released over ten singles, filmed several music videos (including one in Mallorca!), and built a social media following of over 240,000 on TikTok.
2. When did you start your journey with Razzamataz as a student?
I joined Razzamataz Medway when I was seven years old and stayed right through until I began working professionally in music. Razz was such a big part of my childhood, it helped me find my confidence, creativity, and love for performing.
3. How and when did you start working for Razzamataz? How did you get the role?
Whilst I was still signed to my record label, I began teaching at Razzamataz Medway as a singing teacher. It felt like such a full-circle moment to return as part of the team that once inspired me as a student.
From there, my role grew, I later became Social Media Coordinator and Events Manager at Razzamataz Medway before stepping into my current position as Social Media Coordinator for Head Office. I’m absolutely loving it so far and feel really proud to be part of such a creative and supportive team.
4. What has the transition from student to team member been like?
At first, it was definitely a challenge to adjust — going from being taught to teaching others — but I soon found my rhythm. I always think back to what I loved learning as a student; if I would’ve been excited to be taught it, then I know my students will love learning it too. That mindset has really shaped how I approach both my teaching and my creative work.

5. What has been one of your stand-out memories as a student?
My favourite memory has to be performing at Indigo at The O2. I was lucky enough to be one of the lead soloists in our Whitney Houston–inspired pieces, and I’ll forever be grateful for that opportunity. It was such a surreal and special experience that really summed up everything Razzamataz stands for, confidence, opportunity, and community.
6. What’s your role here at Razzamataz Head Office, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I’m the Social Media Coordinator for Razzamataz Theatre Schools Head Office. My role consists of creating new content, communicating with the rest of the Head Office team, and finding creative ways to showcase everything that makes Razzamataz so special.
Every day is different, from designing campaigns and planning posts to celebrating achievements across the network, but that’s exactly what I love about it.
7. What excites you most about working in social media?
I love how creative and ever-changing it is! Social media allows you to tell stories in so many different ways, through video, design, and trends and I love capturing the heart of Razzamataz to share with others. It’s also a space where I get to connect with people, spark inspiration, and celebrate all the incredible things happening in our network.
8. What’s one thing you hope to bring to the team here at Razzamataz?
Creativity, innovation, and energy! I want to keep bringing fresh ideas that help Razzamataz stand out online. I’m passionate about making our content not just informative, but inspiring and something people genuinely connect with.
9. What skills did you learn as a Razzamataz student that you bring to your adult life?
Confidence, communication, and teamwork. Razzamataz taught me how to believe in myself, express ideas, and work collaboratively all skills that have carried me through performing, teaching, and now my Head Office role.
