Meet our new franchisee

Luke Disley, new franchisee of Razzamataz Wimbledon

“The Razzamataz franchise model is the best of both worlds. You get to make money in business from something that you are passionate about.”

Profile: Luke Disley from Chester has just moved to London to take over Razzamataz Wimbledon. He will combine being the new Principal with his successful accountancy and consultancy business. Luke has just completed his intensive week-long franchise training and shares his story about his journey so far.

What’s your background? “I have been involved with performing arts, specifically singing, since I was very young. I have done a lot of amateur dramatics including producing various stage shows. When I was 19, I moved to London to work professionally as a singer but after about a year, I decided to move back home to Chester and retrained as an accountant. I’ve followed this career path for the last five years and 18 months ago, I set up my own business, specialising in franchise accountancy. This is where I met Razzamataz and found out about the opportunities for Razzamataz franchisees.”

What attracted you to Razzamataz? “Although I really enjoy running my accountancy business, it is not my passion. By being a Razzamataz franchisee, I get to have a second string to my bow and be part of a successful and proven business network. The Razzamataz franchise model is the best of both worlds. You get to make money in business from something that you are passionate about.”

What attracted you to the franchise sector? “You get so much support from Head Office, and they can pass on their knowledge to you. There’s not much that they haven’t seen in more than twenty years of trading, and it just felt like the sensible option to have a big brand name behind me.”

How has the initial training and support been? Training has been very intense and there is a lot to take on. But the resources that are available means that I can go back in my own time to relook at areas that I need further help with. Although I’m not new to business, there is so much information in terms of PR and marketing that I wouldn’t have considered before the training and there are lots of areas that I’m completely new to such as HR and employment law. The benefit of being part of a franchise means that everything that I will need to run a successful theatre school is in place, even if I had no idea I would need it.”

What are your goals? “My initial goals are to fill the first school within the next twelve months, so the Saturday school is running at full capacity. I’ve seen other Principals across the UK achieve this, so I know I’m in a good position to do this, which is very inspiring and reassuring. I’m also looking to ensure the staff achieve success and have a great time at Razzamataz Wimbledon.”

What are you most looking forward to in becoming a Razzamataz Principal?

“I’m really looking forward to having a team around me and leading them in the direction which ensures a great experience for them and the customers at Razzamataz Wimbledon. I’m looking forward to building a school that has a positive impact for the children and their families.”

What advice can you offer others considering investing in a franchise?

“Book a Discovery Den as your first step to understanding more about franchising. It so useful and it doesn’t take a lot of time to discover what Razzamataz is about, what they want to achieve and how it benefits both you as the business owner and the children that attend the schools. Speak to Head Office because they are great at what they do. I have felt supported in every step of the way, and they have helped me to define my ambitions and goals and set out a clear path on how I can achieve them.”

“The benefit of being part of a franchise means that everything that I will need to run a successful theatre school is in place, even if I had no idea I would need it.”
