Creating Career Pathways for Young People in the Arts

It’s easy to forget what it feels like to be at the beginning of your career, keen to take the next step, but not always having the experience or skills to feel confident stepping into a leadership role. At Razzamataz, we believe great leaders aren’t simply expected to know how to manage people; they need to be given the right support, training and opportunities to grow.

As team members take on greater responsibility for their colleagues, students and families, Razzamataz Managers Training provides the practical skills and confidence they need to step into leadership, helping them develop their careers while creating even better experiences for the Razzamataz community.

Training provides a clear pathway into management.

The Razzamataz Managers Training is designed to support team members as they move into leadership roles, while also giving Razzamataz Principals the opportunity to grow their businesses, whether that means launching new classes, expanding into new territories, opening additional schools or developing new areas of their existing business.

Having trained managers within the team makes that growth more achievable.

Skye, a team member at Razzamataz Dumfries, has a long history with the school, starting when she was a student in 2013. She progressed from being a Razzamataz Mini and performing in annual shows and West End performances, to becoming a teaching assistant across multiple age groups and later a dance teacher. Through mentoring from the school’s leadership team, she developed her confidence, teaching skills and ability to work with students and parents.

Now, she has been offered the role of manager alongside Principal Debbie for a new Saturday school launching in August.

“I am delighted to be taking on this role and I am excited to learn new key skills which will help me grow and thrive within my role.”

The training is aimed at people who are very knew to the business side of a theatre school and supports individuals without overwhelming them.

Taking advantage of transferable skills

One of the strengths of Razzamataz is that there is no single route into management. Some team members begin as teachers and gradually take on additional responsibilities. Others have been part of Razzamataz since they were children. Some join with professional experience in entirely different sectors and discover that their existing skills can be transferred into a new career in performing arts education.

For Emily at Razzamataz Theatre Schools Dubai, her previous experience in adult learning and development has provided a valuable foundation for her Razzamataz career.

My Razzamataz journey began when I joined Razzamataz Theatre Schools Dubai as the Assistant Teacher.”

Alongside her background in dance and musical theatre, Emily previously worked as a Human Factors Instructor, focusing on adult learning and development and helping people build confidence, communication and teamwork skills. She has also been involved with Girlguiding.

She is now bringing those skills into her work with children and young people and Managers Training is helping her develop the next stage of her career.

“I’m really excited to now bring these learning and development skills into working with children, which led me to attend the Razzamataz Managers Training.”

From student to future leader

When Marcy from Razzamataz Carlisle and Dumfries, joined as a student, she would have had no idea where that journey would take her.

My Razz journey started when I was 4 years old and I haven’t looked back since.”

Having experienced Razzamataz first-hand as a young person, Marcy understands the impact that the schools can have on confidence, friendships and personal development. Now, she is turning that experience into a career opportunity.

I came to Managers Training because I know there is always more to learn.”

For Marcy, the opportunity to learn from Razzamataz’s leadership team is an important part of her development.

“I really look up to the leadership team and their passion for always striving to be the best, which inspires me to keep learning and growing within Razzamataz.”

Growing with a new school

Razzamataz’s expansion also creates new opportunities for team members to step into leadership positions. Maisie, who joined Razzamataz Performing Arts Dubai at the beginning of 2026, is delighted to be part of the network’s first school in the region.

“Due to assisting with lots of operational tasks and duties, I have been put forward for the managers training. I am thrilled to be progressing in my role.”

From teacher to assistant Principal

For Elle at Razzamataz Coventry, progression has happened through gradually expanding her responsibilities. Elle joined Razzamataz in April 2023 as a dance teacher. Since then, her role has grown to include teaching, Project Intense Phase 1 and 2 and becoming assistant Principal. Taking on this role made Elle keen to develop her management knowledge further.

“Taking up this assistant Principal role made me want to seek more information and guidance within it, hence being eager to take up the Managers Training.”

As well as preparing individuals in their first leadership role, the training can also support existing leaders who want to strengthen their skills and become more effective in their roles.

Recognising potential

At Razzamataz, progression can also start when a Principal recognises potential in a team member. That was the experience of Grace Foster at Razzamataz Newbury.

Grace initially joined while looking for an avenue back into theatre alongside her full-time job.

I was so excited when I saw the job application and applied right away.”

Over time, she developed a strong connection with the school, its students and its team. “As the years have passed, I have grown more love and admiration for the school, the students and the team.”

When Principal Debbi offered Grace the opportunity to take on an important new role, she didn’t hestitate.

“When Debbi offered me this incredible position, which I knew would change my life, I couldn’t refuse.”

Rapid progression

For Rebecca at Razzamataz South Lakes, progression has been rapid. Within months of the new Principal Chaneen joining, Rebecca was also teaching at the Kendal school, giving her the opportunity to build confidence and broaden her experience.

But Rebecca soon discovered that her ambitions extended beyond the classroom.

She began supporting the wider team, sharing teaching and operational strategies, suggesting ideas and helping with the organisation of the school’s Summer Showcase. During a one-to-one meeting, Chaneen recognised the initiative Rebecca was demonstrating and asked whether she would be interested in taking on more responsibility. The result was a new role as Operations & Marketing Manager.

Attending the Razzamataz Managers Training feels like the perfect next step in my journey. I’m looking forward to developing my leadership and management skills, learning from other managers across the network and bringing new ideas back to help Razzamataz South Lakes continue to grow and provide the very best experience for our students, families and team.”

Creating confident futures

The Managers Training reflects the wider Razzamataz ethos: creating confident futures doesn’t just apply to the students. It applies to the people who work within the organisation too. As Razzamataz continues to grow across the UK and internationally, developing talented people from within the network will remain an important part of that journey. Because the next Razzamataz Principal, Manager or leader could already be standing in a classroom today.
