This year, Children’s Mental Health Week takes place from 3-9 February with the theme ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself,’ with the primary aim to empower young people across the UK to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to be them.
At Razzamataz Theatre Schools, we recognise the importance of supporting children and their mental health all year round but leading up to this dedicated week we wanted to highlight the benefits of singing, dancing, and acting for the minds of our young people.
Recent studies conducted by Edge Hill University on behalf of Sport England has shown there is ‘strong and consistent evidence that sport and physical activity interventions had positive effects on the diagnosed mental health problems of children and young people.’ Physical activity of moderate-to-high intensity was most effective in treating depression in adolescents, especially when in group settings led by appropriately qualified staff.
This emphasises the importance of what we do here at Razzamataz, through encouraging our students to participate in movement and activity through dance, singing, and acting, supported by our knowledgeable and experienced practitioners.
These creative outlets not only improve physical health but also provide a safe space for children to express themselves, process their emotions, and build self-esteem, helping them navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and resilience.

“Thank you for always advocating for Bobbie, understanding him and enabling him to be successful and achieve within a nurturing environment whilst still maintaining high expectations from him,” says parents Ashley and Connor, whose child is a student at Razzamataz Leeds. “Razzamataz has really given Bobbie something I don’t think he knew he needed and as his parents, has exceeded anything we thought it would have given him. We started Razzamataz to support his attention and listening prior to formal schooling, however, I feel it has now given him a platform to be authentically himself, make and build new friendships, and shine in many ways, all whist instilling confidence, self discipline and self-worth.”
This is one of hundreds of testimonials our franchisees regularly receive, which reinforces how Razzamataz encourages children to express themselves, build resilience and find joy in teamwork. These are not just performance skills but essential life tools for overcoming challenges, managing emotions, and creating a supportive community.
“Children’s mental health is at the heart of what we do,” explains Denise Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “We’ve seen first-hand how the performing arts help children and young people discover confidence, build friendships, and develop emotional resilience. During Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re proud to be making a tangible impact. Every franchisee, teacher, team member and student has the power to contribute to a happier, healthier environment for young people, building a foundation for lifelong mental wellbeing.”
This year, as Razzamataz celebrates its 25-year anniversary, we are proud to reflect on how our schools have positively impacted thousands of young people. By fostering essential life skills through performing arts education, we equip children with the tools they need to maintain a healthy mental health attitude throughout their lives.
To extend this positive impact even further, we are looking for new franchisees who share our passion for helping young people and supporting mental health. By joining the Razzamataz network, you can launch your own school and play a key role in transforming lives in your local community. With a proven business model, comprehensive training, and ongoing support, you’ll have everything you need to make a lasting difference while running a rewarding and successful business.
