Razzamataz Theatre Schools has always been a leader in offering students exciting, high-quality performing arts education, but it’s not just the students who benefit. This April former Razzamataz Medway Principal and current Creative Director, Emily Connor, together with the Head Office team, were delighted to host Beyond the
Core, a training initiative designed to empower teaching teams with the skills, confidence, and insight to deliver outstanding additional classes across the Razzamataz network.
Held at Fabric Dance Studios in Birmingham, Beyond the Core was created for Principals and team members delivering, or aspiring to offer, dynamic additions such as Project Intense, Razz Act, Competition and Training Squads, and Acrobatic Arts. With targeted CPD sessions, expert-led workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, the day was an inspiring reminder that exceptional student experiences start with empowered, well-supported teachers and assistants.

“At Razzamataz, we believe in supporting all our people, whether it’s our youngest students and their families within our Early Years classes, students needing support to find their true passion or take their next steps, to classroom assistants just beginning their journey with us, or experienced teachers looking to grow,” says Denise Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “Training and support shouldn’t stop at any stage. Our commitment to continuous professional development ensures that our teachers and Principals have access to new skills, industry trends, and growth opportunities, making every class more impactful and every career path more exciting.”
Throughout the day, attendees explored how to maximise the value and visibility of their additional class offerings. From understanding the unique identities of each add on class to practical strategies for student progression and engagement, the agenda was designed to elevate both teaching quality and the long-term success of each school.

Razzamataz offers a wide range of additional opportunities that not only enrich students’ performing arts training, but also provide franchise owners with valuable avenues to diversify their income and grow their business. During the day, the training included workshops on Project Intense, Razz Act, Competition and Training Squad and Acrobatic Arts. These are in addition to the high-quality performing arts training offered in the Main School for children aged 4–18, as well as the fun, imaginative Early Years sessions that Razzamataz offers for little ones.
Delivering the sessions were a range of highly skilled and experienced industry professionals including Jesse Thornton, a world championship choreographer, educator, and competition judge, working between London and South Wales. Within his session, he offered a behind-the-scenes look at what competition judges are looking for and expert guidance on crafting high-impact routines, ideal for the Competition and Training Squad offering at Razzamataz.

Having current experts like Jesse is vital in ensuring that Razzamataz stays at the forefront of the performing arts industry. It keeps the training dynamic, relevant, and inspiring for teachers, while also ensuring that students benefit from up-to-date knowledge and the highest standard of tuition.
But the training went far beyond technique. By equipping staff with the tools to deliver and promote these exciting offerings, Razzamataz is opening doors to meaningful career development. Many teachers go on to take leadership roles, train as managers, and even launch their own Razzamataz franchises, proving that CPD at Razzamataz isn’t just about better classes, it’s about brighter futures for students and team members.

“Razzamataz continues to grow because we invest in people who are already part of our network,” added Denise. “This training day is just the start of our ongoing commitment to helping teachers grow in confidence, develop their skills, and take exciting steps forward in their careers, whether that’s leading a Competition Squad or one day running their own school.”
With opportunities to network, reflect, and plan future goals, Beyond the Core also strengthened the sense of collaboration that underpins the Razzamataz ethos. As every school evolves and expands their timetables, the ripple effect of this training day is set to elevate the entire network.
